The single most common question we get: what does a Tanzania safari actually cost? The honest answer sits between $250 and $1,500+ per person per day, depending on the season, the parks you visit and where you sleep. Below is what drives that range — and what we charge for each tier.
Fixed costs you cannot avoid
Tanzania's park fees are the single biggest fixed cost. Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater each run $70–100 per person per day, plus a $295 crater service fee per vehicle per descent. A private 4×4 Land Cruiser with a professional guide costs $350–450 per day. Together, before you have slept anywhere, you are already at roughly $250 per person per day for a couple.
What the tiers actually mean
Budget Tanzania safari — $1,690–2,200 pp for 6 days. Public campsites or simple lodges, shared bathrooms in some camps, private vehicle and guide throughout.
Comfort — $3,200–4,500 pp for 6 days. Mid-range tented camps and lodges with en-suite bathrooms, hot showers, full board.
Luxury — $6,490+ pp for 6 days. Private suites, hot-air balloons, plunge pools, dedicated guide and vehicle, all-inclusive.
Where you can save without ruining the safari
Travel in the green season (March–May, November). Same wildlife, same guide, 25–40% less on lodging. Skip fly-in transfers between parks — driving the Northern Circuit is scenic and adds no time to a 6-day trip. Share the vehicle cost with friends: a private Land Cruiser seats up to six.
Where not to cut: the guide. A great Tanzanian guide is the difference between seeing a lion and understanding what it is doing.
